Hidden Like Counts On Instagram And Your Social Media Strategy

A fellow blogger shared an article in one of our blogging groups this morning that shared the announcement that Instagram is officially testing hiding like counts. As bloggers we spend a lot of time preparing our social media strategy, is this something that will benefit us or not?

If you are in the states, no need to panic yet, only a small group of Canadians will be a part of this test. The hope is that viewers can focus on your content more so than the amount of likes that you have.

“We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.”

For smaller brands who would simply love to get noticed this may be an exciting concept. It allows people to focus on your content, and may encourage more authentic content creation from the community as well. Knowing that people can focus on your content rather than the amount of likes that you have on your page can allow us to connect with more of the community at large which does excite me because it offers more growth potential.

What about larger brands who rely on a brands ability to measure public likes?
